Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts: A Guide for Christian Women
Understanding your spiritual gifts is key to living out your God-given calling and fulfilling your role in the body of Christ.
Each of us is uniquely equipped with gifts that serve different purposes, and it’s our responsibility to identify and use them to honor God and serve others.
In Episode 6 of Burnout to Blessed, we delve into the world of spiritual gifts, exploring what they are, how to recognize them, and the importance of utilizing them to their fullest potential.
What Are Spiritual Gifts?
Spiritual gifts aren’t just talents or learned skills but special abilities the Holy Spirit gives to EVERY believer. (Yes! You are gifted!)
Spiritual gifts are something every believer is given when they receive the gift of salvation.
- Everyone doesn’t receive the same gifts or all the gifts.
- Just as many parts of the human body work together as one, so spiritual gifts are given to the members of the body of Christ to serve as one.
They’re meant to SERVE others and glorify God. Understanding and using your spiritual gifts is essential for fulfilling your God-given calling.
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” - Romans 12:6-8 NIV
What is the Purpose of Spiritual Gifts?
- God gives us spiritual gifts to glorify HIM and serve other believers.
- In Ephesians 4:12, Paul says, “to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.”
- Spiritual Gifts are NOT about us.
- In 1 Corinthians 12:7, Paul says gifts are given “for the common good,” so we should not use them selfishly. Instead, we use them to help each other.
- God is looking for an obedient heart and spirit, and God can use ANY spiritual gift at ANY time, no matter what an assessment’s “score” shows.
These gifts, mentioned in several places in the New Testament, including Romans 12:6-8 (Motivational Gifts), 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (Manifestation Gifts), and Ephesians 4:11-13, are meant to serve others and glorify God.

How to Discover Your Spiritual Gifts
To uncover your spiritual gifts, first and foremost, spend time with God–prayer, worship, and reading His Word. Ask God to reveal to you your gifts and how He wants you to use them.
Additionally, consider taking a spiritual gifts assessment to help identify your strengths. I’ve taken several different assessments, and while these are not perfect, they can be very insightful. They have helped me discover and steward gifts I didn’t know I had.
