3 Back to School Prayers
It’s that time of year again. Excitement. Anticipation. Hope. Stress. Anxiety.
No matter what you are feeling, you need a good dose of Jesus to help you in this season.
Prayer is the backbone of our relationship with God, so let’s ensure we cover every inch of the back-to-school season with His protection, guidance, and love!
Let’s come together to pray these 3 back to school prayers. I want to encourage you to gather with other believers in your school to pray. Pray over the desks in your classrooms. Pray over your roster and your lesson plans. And if you need prayer, don’t hesitate to ask!
A Prayer for Teachers & Staff
Before any student walks through the doors, teachers and staff are hard at work preparing the way. Let us pray over each and every teacher, leader, counselor, custodian, librarian, coach, aide, administrator, assistant, bus driver–EVERYONE in EVERY BUILDING!
Father God, we come to You today with hopeful hearts for a joyous back-to-school season. We thank You for the honor of serving children and the community. We know that it is no coincidence that You have brought together this unique group of educators, leaders, and staff. We ask that You guide our steps and our decisions and give us words of wisdom to reach our students this year. We pray for a hedge of protection around our building. We know that no weapon formed against us shall stand (Isaiah 54:17). Protect us from evil each and every day. Carry us through the tough days, the long and tiring days, and the challenges we face this year. Be our refuge in times of distress (Psalm 46:1). Give us peace and joy as we strive to love like You, and protect us from burnout. We pray for Your will this school year, not our own.
In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
A Prayer for Students
As students prepare and enter our doors this school year, let us come together and pray over them.
Lord, we thank You for each and every student that enters our classrooms. We know that they are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) in Your image (Genesis 1:27). You know every hair on their head (Matthew 10:30). And You know every challenge our students face in and out of the classroom (Psalm 139:2-4). We ask that You show these children Your favor this school year. Please protect them from illness and injury, and from anyone who wants to hurt or harm them. Give them wisdom and discernment to make Godly decisions. Enable them to ask for help when they need it. Give them the skills they need to be successful this year. Give us insight into our students so that we can teach, guide, and love them like You. Help us to meet their needs while letting Your light shine through us (Matthew 5:16).
In Your precious name, we pray, Amen.
A Prayer for Parents & Caregivers
Let us not forget to pray for our parents and caregivers. We need them to partner with us to help our students be successful this year.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the opportunity to serve our community. Today we ask that You help each and every parent and caregiver of our students. They need You to guide them to make good, Godly decisions for the welfare of their child. This can be a very stressful time for many parents. Give them peace and joy (Psalm 5:11), so they don’t miss a moment with their growing child. Grant us good relationships with our parents so we can work together as a team to do what’s best for each student. Help us to be humble, compassionate servants (1 Peter 3:8), and serve as an example for non-believers to see Jesus at work through us (Titus 2:7), even when we face challenges with difficult parents.
We ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
God Bless You!
God bless you for all you do for our students and schools. I am praying for you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you are struggling. Thank you, teachers!
